So many of us live lives filled with worry and fear.

A certain amount of anxiety is actually a natural, normal, healthy human experience.  Without it, you might make all sorts of dangerous, risky decisions.

However, sometimes anxiety can get so intense that it begins to get in the way of living the life you want.  You might toss and turn at night, fretting about the future.  Social situations and work presentations may create intense feelings of dread and fear of judgment.  A debilitating tension in your chest might grip your heart and prevent you from moving forward with what is important to you.  You might fixate on “what if,” assume the worst will happen, and disconnect with the present moment.  Sometimes it may feel like, no matter what you try, the anxiety is always there.

If this sounds like you, know that you are not alone.

Intense anxiety is often based in old wounds from parts of our lives where we didn’t feel safe.  Maybe you were bullied, punished, or mistreated in your early years.  Maybe you survived a difficult, painful, or traumatic experience that shook your sense of safety or confidence.  Or maybe you’ve always felt this way, feeling that your nervous system is more sensitive or reactive than other people’s, and that the anxiety has always been there.

Regardless of the cause of your experience with anxiety, therapy is designed to help.

How can therapy help?

Utilizing techniques from Internal Family Systems, Somatic Experiencing, and Mindful Self-Compassion, all evidence-based therapies, my therapy is designed to help you listen to yourself on a deeper level. I help you learn to understand and compassionately welcome your emotional world - including your anxiety.

Most of us try to resist or get rid of our feelings of anxiety.  We push them away or try to ignore them.  We numb out with screens and other behaviors of avoidance.  Counter-intuitively though this very often has the tendency to intensify the anxiety - what we resist persists.  We learn to fear those anxious feelings causing the fear and anxiety to multiply.

But, if we can learn to turn towards our feelings in a safe way and learn to listen to them, amazing things begin to happen. We begin to heal from those old wounds, a sense of stability and courage begins to form, and we are able to live a more fulfilled life.

You deserve to feel calm, safe, and confident and I want to help make that happen.
